Having been affected by Cancer, in 2015, I set up Can-Survive UK to address the lack of culturally appropriate support service provision for Black African, Black Caribbean and other culturally diverse community members living with and/or affected by cancer.
Can-Survive UK is targeted at but not exclusive for the Black African, Black Caribbean population – our services are for everyone. All are welcome!
I am passionate about raising awareness about the signs, symptoms and risk factors of cancer and work in partnership with statutory, voluntary and mainstream cancer organisations to address this, as well as to encourage and support our target groups to effectively engage with the various cancer screening programmes.
Our advocacy work at organisational level, works to ensure that community members voices and experiences are included and feed into, at an early stage, research, policy and practice.
By 2030, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer. We want to ensure that African and Caribbean people have access to culturally sensitive support and information, locally, regionally and nationally.
