Research at Can-Survive UK

At Can-Survive UK (CSUK), we are committed to supporting those affected by cancer and advocating for health and social equity within the Afro-Caribbean community. Our research efforts focus on improving the experiences and outcomes for individuals impacted by cancer, especially those in underrepresented and underserved groups.

As a research-driven charity, we are committed to coordinating and leading meaningful studies that explore culturally sensitive issues in cancer care, treatment, and prevention.
We work closely with external partners, including universities, health bodies, and other research institutions, to contribute to the body of knowledge that supports better health outcomes.

What we do

  • Organising and overseeing focus groups and consultations to ensure diverse community voices are heard.
  • Developing and submitting research proposals to external bodies to secure funding for impactful studies.
  • Engaging with cancer-affected communities to identify research areas that reflect their needs and experiences.
  • Facilitation of cultural competency training to educate healthcare professionals on the importance of understanding diverse cultural needs within cancer care.
We are driven by the goal of addressing cancer inequalities that disproportionately affect people from Afro-Caribbean backgrounds. By conducting evidence-based research, we advocate for systemic changes that improve care, support services, and resources for those affected by cancer.

Collaborating for impact

Our research work involves active collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including service users, healthcare professionals, and community organisations. Through these partnerships, we gather vital insights and data that inform our ongoing projects, contribute to policy changes, and shape the future of cancer care for the communities we serve.

Getting involved

We invite members of the community, healthcare professionals, and researchers to join us in our mission to improve cancer care. Whether through participation in focus groups, co-facilitation of training programmes, or partnership in large-scale research projects, there are many ways to contribute to the impactful work we are doing. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
